Affiliation Process

The WTA are always keen to hear from anyone interested in running a tournament or league in Wales so that we can offer our support and assistance to get you started.

The resources needed for any event depend on its size and nature. To assist in the staging of Touch events, the WTA have prepared an Event Management guide to highlight the key areas to be considered in staging a Touch Tournament. Click below to download the Event Management guide.

As with most sports, organised leagues, tournaments and other Touch activities should affiliate to the WTA as the national governing body in order to become recognised as an official league, to ensure participants are receiving a standardised game and included in regional, national and international activities.

The WTA provide a range of activities and services for affiliates.

Benefits include:

  • Access to referee training courses with formal internationally recognised 5-level European Referee Qualifications
  • Access to the WTA qualified referees
  • WTA support for your events, including website listing and WTA-branded Touch Balls
  • League protected under the national constitution, by laws and policies
  • Access to protection policies, disciplinary procedures and a national code of conduct
  • Access to Touch coaching courses with formal internationally recognised 4-level Coaching Qualifications
  • Direct involvement in shaping the future of Touch in Wales
  • CRB Checks for coaches seeking to undertake coaching activities with children
  • Input into the sport’s development in Europe and around the world
  • Access to partnership arrangements negotiated by the national body
  • Team and referee access to regional and national club championships
  • Player opportunity to national coaching set up and eligibility to represent regional and national teams. – Players and referees wishing to represent Wales must participate only in events affiliated to the WTA and other National Touch Associations.

Affiliation process:

Apply in writing/email to the Managing Director of the WTA.

The WTA Executive Board will review the application.

The league/tournament will be affiliated subject to ratification and prior payment of the affiliation fee.

For full information on WTA membership, please read through the constitution on the WTA policy page

Affiliation costs:

The WTA are funded by membership and affiliation fees. The affiliation costs vary on an individual event basis and the level of input & support required by the organiser from the WTA.

However as a guide, for a one off tournament, the fee is currently £150 and for a small league the cost is currently £10 per team entered in the event per year.
